Trips to South Africa are not just about the Big 5. What it really means is to undertake a journey into unexplored places, a journey filled with new treasures and adventure, a journey of friendship and of fond memories. Safari S. A. creates memorable African journeys while adhering to the classic safari traditions of the great explorers.
South Africa with its problems has still developed into one of the most popular hunting destinations in Africa. Offering a high degree of professionalism by the professional hunters and outfitters and offering the largest variety of trophy species available including all of the big five. With the daily rates being what they are a hunter is getting true value for money .Compared to the security problems being experienced world wide South Africa is still a safe and secure destination. South Africa is divided into nine provinces all of which offer hunting of one type or another.
GEOGRAPHY
South Africa is situated on the Southern most tip of Africa and is bordered
by Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. It covers an area of approximately
1,227,200 square kilometers with the Indian Ocean to the East and the Atlantic
to the West.
CLIMATE
South Africa has a very sunny climate which can vary in temperature tremendously.
Ranging from subtropical conditions in the north down to the Mediterranean
type conditions in the Cape. Mid-Winter occurs in July and Mid-Summer in
January.
CURRENCY
The currency is the South African Rand and the international symbol is R. One
rand equals 100 cents. Rand's are accepted country wide as well as US Dollars
in certain situations.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE
Travelers cheques and foreign currency notes of all major currencies can be
obtained at commercial banks, airports and major hotels.
CREDIT CARDS
Most credit cards are accepted by all retail outlets. But please bear in mind
that Safari S. A. does not accept credit card payments due for any safari
expenses.
ELECTRICITY
South Africa's electricity supply is 220 volts AC 50 Hz. Appliances of a lesser
voltage require transformers and adaptors.
LANGUAGES
South Africa has eleven official languages with English , Afrikaans, Zulu and
Xhosa being the most widely used. However English is spoken and understood
by most people in the country.
WATER
The water in South Africa is extremely palatable and is perfectly safe to drink,
however should one be a little uneasy with tap water, bottled water is freely
available.
MEDICAL
South Africa has a modern and sophisticated hospital network should the need
arise. Inoculations are not required for South Africa however if a hunter
is to hunt in the Northern Province, Zululand, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique
we recommend malaria prophylactics be taken. Please consult your pharmacist
or doctor on the subject. The South African Government has made remarkable
breakthroughs concerning malaria. With reintroduction of DDT the number of
reported cases have reduced by 80% since 2 years ago. Other than malaria
in certain areas there is nothing else to worry about. All the horrific tropical
diseases one hears about are fictions and life in general in South Africa
from a health point of view is exactly the same as that in the States.
WHAT TO BRING
Besides the obvious like warm and cool comfortable clothing don't forget to
pack items like photographic equipment, binoculars, sun and insect protection
and flashlight.
BIRD SHOOTING
Bird shooting safaris are conducted from June though to September and include
species like dove and pigeon, guinea fowl, franklin and water fowl. These
are also tailor made safaris and take place over 8 days although one can
add on a few days wing shooting to your safari if necessary.
BIG FIVE SAFARIS
Although Trophy fees for the big five are not mentioned on the price list the
big five are available to you. As the prices vary so much from area to area
we prefer to tailor make a big five safari. We work in conjunction with established
and reputable outfitters in Botswana and Zimbabwe. This allows us to keep
a very high standard .
BOW HUNTING
Bow hunting safaris are undertaken throughout the year but we recommend the
drier months ( June - September) as with game being concentrated around waterhole's
the chances of success improve dramatically. Hunting is done from established
blinds and also using the old walk and stalk method.
FISHING OPPORTUNITIES
Excellent big game fishing is available on the east coast of South Africa.
These are tailor made and usually take place over five days. For the serious
fresh water fisherman or species collector excellent inland fishing can be
experienced with species like tiger fish, large catfish and many others available.
SAFARI DURATION
The duration of your safari is optional but please keep in mind the quality
of trophies required. We would recommend a minimum of 7 to 10 days, but should
one wish to hunt more than one area or do a bit of sight seeing longer would
obviously be better.
SIGHT SEEING
Having come all the way to Africa it might be a good idea to do a bit of sight
seeing whilst here. We would happily take you into one of the many game reserves
like the Kruger National Park, or to one of the historical landmarks. Other
interesting places to visit include; Cape Town and surrounding areas, East
coast with excellent diving and marlin fishing, Johannesburg and it's gold
mining history, as well as many other places of interest. These we will discuss
with you and added onto your safari as an extra. Included in the agreed amount
will be transport, accommodation, catering and personal guide.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should there be any information or advice
you require. Being a full service safari operator allows us to add side trips
before or after your hunt with us, enhancing your African vacation. There are
destinations, attractions and services available that may not be outlined on
our web site, so ask and we are sure to be able to accommodate you.
